IIPE Summer Internship Programme (SIP) 2026 – Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy

The Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE), Visakhapatnam, has opened applications for its Summer Internship Programme (SIP) 2026. Introduced in 2022, this program offers pre-final year undergraduate and postgraduate students an opportunity to work on focused research projects with experienced faculty members.

The internship aims to encourage students to explore their research potential in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by providing hands-on exposure to real academic research environments.

### Internship Duration
• 8 weeks during the summer vacation (as per IIPE academic calendar)

### Eligible Courses
Students currently enrolled in the following programs can apply:

• B.E / B.Tech (6th Semester)
• M.Sc / M.S / M.Tech (2nd Semester)
• Dual Degree M.Tech (8th Semester)
• Dual Degree M.Sc (8th Semester)

Only students pursuing regular education programs are eligible.

### Subject Areas Available
Applicants can choose research projects in the following fields:

• Biosciences / Biotechnology / Bioinformatics
• Chemical Engineering
• Chemistry
• Computer Science and Engineering
• Earth Sciences
• Electrical Engineering
• Mathematics
• Mechanical Engineering
• Petroleum Engineering

### Internship Funding
There are three funding categories for SIP interns:

• Institute Funded: ₹10,000 stipend for the 8-week internship
• Project Funded: Up to ₹10,000 stipend depending on faculty project funding
• Self-Funded: No stipend, but students can work on faculty research projects

### Application Fee
• ₹500 application fee (non-refundable)

### Selection Criteria
Students will be selected based on:

• Academic performance (CGPA)
• Research experience and achievements
• Proposed research work
• Letters of recommendation

Minimum CGPA requirement:

• 7.5 CGPA for students from IITs, IISc, NITs, IISERs, NISER, IIEST, CFTIs, or universities ranked Top 25 in NIRF
• 8.5 CGPA for students from other institutes

b. CGPA ≥ 8.5 for students of other institutes.

c. Aggregate percentage should be more than 65% in 10th and 10+2. 10.4 Students with pending backlog and/or disciplinary action are not eligible.

The applications will be evaluated by department-wise SIP selection committees consisting of the Head of Department, Associate Dean of R&D, and a faculty expert.

This internship offers an excellent opportunity for students interested in energy research, petroleum engineering, and interdisciplinary STEM research to work with faculty members at IIPE.
