About – IISC CBRAIN Internship Program 2026

The Center for Brain Research (CBR) is calling for applications for the 2026 CBRAIN training program. Now in its fourth edition, the program continues to provide a valuable opportunity for students interested in brain aging research.

This year, the program will focus on the processing integration, and analysis of large-scale multimodal health data obtained from publicly available datasets and CBR’s longitudinal cohort studies of brain aging. Under the guidance of CBR’s experienced scientists and data analysis teams, interns will build practical skills in handling a variety of data types and contribute to research to improve understanding of brain aging and related neurological conditions. As part of the program, interns will also apply machine learning techniques to predict cognitive decline in large cohort studies using advanced data sets, including multi-omics data. Participants will receive hands-on training in data science, multimodal data integration, and advanced analytics methods.

Eligibility:- IISC CBRAIN Internship Program 2026

Criteria	Details
Purpose of Internship	Designed for motivated applicants with a strong interest in brain aging research and neurodegenerative diseases, along with a willingness to work with multimodal datasets
Master’s Eligibility	Final year students of M.Sc / M.Tech / M.E / MCA or equivalent from Indian institutions
Preferred Background	Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Data Science, or other quantitative disciplines
Other Eligible Students	Candidates from different backgrounds can apply if they have a strong interest and experience in data handling, especially in health or biological sciences
Bachelor’s Eligibility	Final year students of B.Sc / B.Tech / B.E or equivalent can also apply (if criteria are met)
AI/ML Experience	Prior experience in AI/ML will be considered an added advantage
Coding Skills	Basic to intermediate knowledge of Python or R is preferred

Duration	Typically 3 months (preferably 1 May – 31 July 2026); shorter internships may not be allowed
Extension Option	Longer duration may be considered in special cases
Mode of Internship	Fully in-person at CBR; remote or virtual participation not allowed
Stipend (Master’s Students)	₹25,000 per month
Stipend (Bachelor’s Students)	₹20,000 per month
Accommodation & Travel	Interns must arrange their own accommodation and travel
Work Requirements	Must follow CBR working hours and institutional guidelines
Learning Exposure	Work with neuroscientists, clinicians, and data scientists; participate in journal clubs and research seminars
Final Requirement	Submit a detailed internship report and possibly a poster presentation
Certificate Criteria	An internship certificate will be awarded after successful completion of all requirements
