Notice for the NISER Summer Internship Programme (NSIP)

NISER Summer Internship Programme 2026, Online applications are invited from Indian students for the following program from the eligible students registered/enrolled in the UG/PG degree courses for the summer internship programme scheduled to commence from 16th May – 15th July 2026 in the following schools of NISER, Bhubaneswar.

  1. School of Biological Sciences (SBS)
  2. School of Chemical Sciences (SCS)
  3. School of Computer Sciences (SCoS)
  4. School of Earth & Planetary Sciences (SEPS)
  5. School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS)
  6. School of Mathematical Sciences (SMS)
  7. School of Physical Sciences (SPS)
  8. Centre for Medical and Radiation Physics (CMRP)

1. Eligibility:- NISER Summer Internship Programme 2026

School

Minimum Educational Qualifications

Biological Sciences

Students should be registered/enrolled in UG/PG degree courses with Biological Sciences/Biotech as a major subject in recognized universities/institutions.

Chemical Sciences

Students should be registered/enrolled in UG/PG degree courses with Chemical Sciences/Chemical Engineering as a major subject in recognized universities/institutions.

Computer Sciences

Students should be registered/enrolled in UG/PG degree courses with Computer Science/Computer Engineering as a major subject in recognized universities/institutions.

Earth & Planetary Sciences

Students should be registered/enrolled in UG/PG degree courses with Earth & Planetary Science/Atmospheric Science/Space Science/Astronomy/Physical Sciences/B.Tech as a major subject in recognized universities/institutions.

Humanities and Social Sciences

Students should be registered/enrolled in UG/PG degree courses with English/Economics/Psychology/Sociology as a major subject in recognized universities/institutions.

Mathematical Sciences

Students should be registered/enrolled in UG/PG degree courses with Mathematical Sciences as a major subject in recognized universities/institutions.

Physical Sciences

Students should be registered/enrolled in UG/PG degree courses with Physical Sciences/Materials Science/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering as a major subject in recognized universities/institutions.

Centre for Medical and Radiation Physics

Students should be registered/enrolled in UG/PG degree courses with Radiation Physics as a major subject in recognized universities/institutions.

NISER Summer Internship Programme 2026, NISER offers a vibrant summer internship programme in which participants take up various stateof-art research projects under supervision of our faculties. This is a two months long programme conducted usually between the months of May to July. Apart from regular project work, participants also get an opportunity to participate in various activities organized by respective schools and centers, such as seminars on current research work in various fields, visit to different research facilities of NISER, night sky observation etc. On successful completion of the project, the intern shall be issued a “Project Completion Certificate,” which may be useful in enriching the academic credentials of the internship. Other details of the programme are given below:

  1.  The summer programme will be conducted during May 16th to July 15th 2026.
  2.  No extension for a longer stay will be considered in this programme.
  3.  Students who have availed this programme earlier in NISER will not be considered again.
  4.  Applications will be considered only for the PIs for whom vacancies/seats are advertised.
  5.  Applicants can contact the faculty directly, get their acceptance, and/or apply to NSIP only with a consent letter/e-mail received from faculties.
  6.  The selection of students will be done by the respective PI / Faculty.
  7.  A Limited number of selected interns who are not receiving any financial support / fellowship / internship grant from any agency / Academy / Central or State Government will be paid stipend @ ₹5,000/ per month & to and fro single travel support of Second Class Sleeper train fare after successful completion the programme.
  8.  No programme fee will be charged from the interns under this programme.
  9.  Hostel accommodation may be provided on a chargeable basis @ ₹30/- per day subject to availability.

Interested students may apply for the above programme by filling out the Google application form and providing all the required information there. Details about the PIs and diverse research areas/activities of the respective school can be found in the link: https://www.niser.ac.in/. Applicants need to upload the scanned copy of the “Bonafide-Cum-No Objection Certificate” in the prescribed format (given in page 6) duly issued by a competent authority.

  • Applicants may arrange reference letters from two referees, which should be sent directly by email to the programme coordinator of the respective schools on or before 10th April

General Terms & Conditions:-

Students in the above programme will be allowed, subject to the following conditions, for which they shall have to sign an undertaking at the time of joining the institute if selected.

  • a) The data or any intellectual property generated from the summer Internship/short-term/long-term project work by the students shall entirely be owned by NISER with full rights of its use for academic & research purposes.
  • b) The Summer Interns shall have no rights to the data generated during their project work at NISER. The use of the said data by them for any purpose, including authorship in publications, patents, or any other commercial, non-commercial, academic research without prior approval/consent of the competent authority of NISER, is completely prohibited. However, the data can only be used to prepare the project report/dissertation thesis under the supervision of the respective faculty guide/PI. Students may deposit a copy of the stated project report to their parent institution if required for academic purposes.
  • c) The Summer Interns shall have to maintain strict confidentiality & utmost care while disclosing or dealing with the data/information pertaining to the Institute/school/lab/instrumentation etc.
  • d) In the event of any infringement of the above conditions, appropriate disciplinary/legal action shall be taken by the authorities of NISER against the erring person.
  • e) Students shall follow the instructions of their respective faculty PIs strictly & the concerned faculty PIs will be supervising & monitoring their activities inside the lab & campus.
  • f) Students are expected to maintain proper discipline/decorum all times during their stay on campus. In the event of any misconduct, disciplinary action as deemed fit will be taken by the school authorities against the student.
  • g) While availing the hostel accommodation, central library, or any other facility at NISER, students must abide by the relevant rules and deposit caution money if required.
  • h)No NISER e-mail ID will be created for summer interns.
  • i) Students will have to use their own laptops for the computational / coding work; however, departmental guest Wi-Fi login may be shared to access the internet only for project-related works. If any misuse of the internet facility is reported by the NISER-CC, then disciplinary action as deemed fit will be taken by the NISER authorities against the student.
  • j) All students selected to join the NSIP programme may use the mess facility at the same cost applied to the NISER students with an advance payment of one month while joining.
  • k) Hostel accommodation may be provided on a chargeable basis (₹30 per day), subject to availability.

Checklist for application submission:-

During online submission, you will need to have the following ready with you for uploading as a single combined PDF file;

  • Passport-size photo.
  • “Bonafide-Cum-No Objection Certificate” in the prescribed format as Annexure-I.
  • Your previous semester’s grade sheet.
  • Your CV.

PDF file of the recommendation letter should be sent directly to the program coordinator’s email of the respective schools.
